Washington's distracted driver law takes effect

Washington's attempts to eliminate distracted driving moved to a new level on July 23, 2017, when the state's zero tolerance law went into effect. The law aims to prevent drivers from doing anything but driving while they are operating a motor vehicle. According to police, the new law is aimed at sharply reducing the number of car accidents on Washington's highways.

Should you consider creating a revocable living trust?

Estate planning is a harrowing but critical task, one of which everyone can benefit from. However, everyone’s estate planning needs are going to differ based on a number of variables. Creating a will is a universal necessity, but a revocable living trust can be more beneficial to some than others.

You may not realize it but you likely have an estate

During the course of a Vancouver resident's life a person may acquire and divest themselves of different parcels of real property, items of personal property, or intangible assets such as bank accounts and investments. They may have periods of life in which they own many things and they may experience moments when their property and assets are minimal. However, at any given point in a person's life they likely own something and that with everything else they own is considered their estate.

Understanding Vancouver's land use review process

Vancouver, along with virtually all municipalities in Washington, has enacted a comprehensive procedure for reviewing land use applications. The process is based upon the city's comprehensive plan, zoning ordinance and zoning map. An application for a land use permit will be handled by one of four different procedures that are spelled out in the city's zoning laws.

Drunk driver injures two in three-car accident

Drunk driving in Washington is a serious crime even if no aggravating factors, such as a prior conviction or an accident that causes injury or death, are present. When a drunk driver causes an accident that results in injury or death, the penalties can escalate. The driver in a recent three-car accident in Vancouver now faces one or more drunk driving charges.

What must be included in a Chapter 11 plan of reorganization?

When a Vancouver business files a petition for relief under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Act, the business must eventually draft and submit to the court a plan of reorganization. The plan is intended as a roadmap for the business to reorganize its debts and emerge from bankruptcy as a viable entity. The contents of the plan are prescribed by the Bankruptcy Code.

How long does the probate process take?

When a loved one passes away, time may be the only thing that allows you to move past the loss. When considering probate and estate planning, time is also an important factor in the process. If you are left in charge of an estate as an executor, you should understand the legal timeline to follow to ensure that loved ones receive the assets they are granted as beneficiaries to a will.
