Has distracted driving law made Washington's roads safer?

During this past summer, the state of Washington implemented a tougher distracted driving law. A recent newspaper analysis of the results of the law seems to indicate that the law has had only mixed results in improving safety on the state's highways and reducing the number of truck and car accidents.

Alcohol may have played role in head-on collision in Portland

Alcohol often causes a driver to lose control of his vehicle or fail to remain in the proper lane. A recent head-on car accident in Portland appears to have been caused by one driver losing control of his vehicle, and police suspect that alcohol was involved.

Head-on crash kills 2

Portland police are trying to untangle the course of events that led to a catastrophic head-on collision that killed two people, including a 12-year-old girl. The preliminary police report says that alcohol and excessive speed probably played a role in causing this violent car accident.

Collision with ambulance injures 4, raises questions

Most drivers in Oregon understand that they must yield the right-of-way to emergency vehicles whose sirens are sounding and whose lights are flashing. A recent car accident in Tualatin, a Portland suburb, raises difficult questions about whether a motorist improperly failed to yield the right-of-way to an ambulance.

Vancouver police arrest hit-and-run suspect

Car accidents are never happy events, but one of the cruelest types of wrecks is the hit-and-run collision. The victim is often deprived of the opportunity to recover damages for any injuries suffered unless the hit-and-run driver can be found, and that outcome oftentimes depends upon the police. The Vancouver police have brought at least one such case to a satisfactory conclusion by finding and arresting the man responsible for a hit-and-run car accident that badly injured a local motorcyclist.

What is a statute of limitation?

Following any type of Washington accident, the first and most pressing issues are to take care of one's health and well-being. But, when the dust finally settles, depending on the severity and nature of the accident, one might want to consider advice on the potential for compensation for injuries.

Selfies on the roads becoming epidemic

The unfortunate reality about life in Vancouver, Washington, is that too many Americans are obsessed with their smartphones and taking "selfies." While a selfie is not inherently dangerous, a disturbing trend is to use social media apps, such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, to take a selfie while behind the wheel of a car and hashtag the image with #DrivingSelfie, #SelfieWhileDriving or the ironic #HopeIDon'tCrash.

Be mindful of trucks on the roads

Too many Americans, including those from the Vancouver, Washington, area, take trucks for granted on the roads. While most accidents people encounter are car accidents and generally, mild ones, like fender benders, truck accidents are usually far more serious, often leading to catastrophic injuries and in some cases, death. Understanding the risks associated with sharing the roads with trucks may help avoid an accident or at the very least, show why truck accidents can occur.

Police search for driver in hit and run accident

Police are reaching out to the public looking for suspect in connection with a hit and run accident that left a victim with serious injuries including the amputation of one leg and the possibility of amputation to the other. The accident occurred in late February, when the suspect was travelling on Northeast 54th Avenue, crashed into the victim and fled the scene.
